Audrey Helps Actors

I basically went to acting business school by listening to this podcast, hosted by working actor Audrey Moore.

When I decided I wanted to be a professional actor, I knew I needed to educate myself. So first I signed up for acting classes to learn how to act, and then I listened to Audrey Helps Actors to learn everything else.

At that time, I was able to go all the way back to the beginning of Audrey’s podcast and listen from episode one. Unfortunately, at this point the first 60 episodes don’t seem to be accessible anywhere, but that still leaves you with hours and hours of informative episodes.

Audrey is the real deal. She worked her way up in the business without family connections or other insider advantages. What she does have is discipline, grit, and a knack for understanding the business side of show business.

I truly believe that the success I’ve had so far has its roots in this podcast. I knew so much about the industry before I even started auditioning. My expectations were realistic, my goals were clear, and I was able to start my career off in a way that put me miles ahead of so many other new actors.

Smartless

Smartless is hosted by three very famous and talented actors who have all been in the business for decades.

Smartless is a fun listen that doesn’t teach you a whole lot about being an actor, but the hosts have great stories and amazing guests. Sean Hayes, Will Arnett, and Jason Bateman are great friends, terrible interviewers, and super funny guys who slip in some profound, tender moments amidst the mocking and name dropping.

The premise is that one of them brings on a guest, and the other two don’t know who it is ahead of time. It’s a weekly parade of A-listers.

Chances are good that by the end of an episode the hosts will have brought up Sean’s dad abandoning his family, Jason’s lost years as a coked-up drunk, and Will’s many failed attempts to quit smoking. But they do it with such love for each other that you can’t help but BUY-EEEEEEE into the friendship.

What’s My Frame

This podcast brings you behind the scenes with casting directors, actors, directors, and other creatives who make Hollywood happen, hosted by Laura Linda Bradley, a working actor.

With 200 episodes, What’s My Frame is packed with great interviews. Laura has interviewed a lot of casting directors, including some absolute legends, which is an incredible resource. The more you know about casting directors, the better off you’ll be when you step into the audition room (or more likely, press record on your phone).

Laura has lots of credits in recognizable productions, so she’s able to ask the questions that her listeners would ask if they could.
